Red Sox are signing former A’s RHP to minor league deal

The Boston Red Sox entered the offseason with a clear goal of upgrading their bullpen and pitching depth for the 2025 season and beyond, and on Sunday, they continued down that path.

According to KPRC2’s Ari Alexander, the Red Sox have agreed to terms on a minor league deal with right-handed pitcher Austin Adams that includes a spring training invite. Alexander also reported that the deal could be worth more than $1.5 million with appearance bonuses.

Adams, 33, was originally an eight-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels in the 2012 MLB draft out of the University of South Florida. The Angels traded him to the Washington Nationals in 2016, and he debuted with his new club the following year.

Since then, he’s also spent time with the Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks and Oakland Athletics.

In his eight-year career, he’s posted a 4.10 ERA, 1.336 WHIP and 12.9 K/9. In 56 appearances for Oakland in 2024, he posted a 3.92 ERA, 1.476 WHIP and 11.5 K/9 over 41 1/3 innings.

The Red Sox are hoping that in their pitching program, Adams will become a reliable relief option who could bounce between Boston and Triple-A Worcester at points this season. He’ll have an opportunity to compete for a full-time role in spring training.
