Proposed Red Sox trade could land All-Star Silver Slugger in Boston for two-years, $22 million

The Boston Red Sox are looking for a righty slugger to try and help balance out their lefty-dominated lineup. An interesting pick came up in a trade proposal, for Tampa Bay Rays’ Yandy Diaz.

According to Jim Bowden, the Yankees were interested in Diaz at the trade deadline, and still are. In return, the Rays only wanted a couple prospects.

This past season, Diaz hit .281/.341/.414/.755 with 14 homers and 31 doubles. Diaz also has a low K-rate, sitting at 15%. He could slide into the DH position for the Sox, and play first on days the Sox want to give Triston Casas off.

For his contract, Diaz has one year left, and then a club option. For his first year, it would cost $10 million, and if the Sox pick up the option, the next year would be $12 million.

Should the Sox consider this? Absolutely. He wouldn’t cost much, and he is a proven hitter, with a Silver Slugger and Batting Title to his name. They also wouldn’t have to pay hundreds of millions of dollars and a long contract, and can extend him if they want to.

And, as an added plus, they can mess with the Yankees. Hopefully the Sox realize this and get this man on their team.
