4 Red Sox players receive bonuses for 2024 performance

The Boston Red Sox may not have reached the postseason in 2024, but they did have some players perform well individually, including some studs on their entry-level contracts.

Every year the MLB gives out 100 bonuses (worth a total of $50 million) to pre-arbitration players for performing well during the pre-arbitration years of their contract (fewer than three years of service time). The bonuses also take into account awards voting and WAR.

For the Red Sox, four players earned bonuses for their 2024 seasons (via. the Associated Press). Here’s who they were:

OF Jarren Duran – $1.32 million

Duran, the 2024 All-Star Game MVP, appeared in 160 games for Boston in 2024, hitting .285 with an .834 OPS, 21 home runs, 75 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. He also led the league in doubles and triples and significantly improved his defense.

SP Tanner Houck – $534,267

Houck made his first All-Star team in 2024, posting a 3.12 ERA, 1.142 WHIP and 7.8 K/9 in 178 2/3 innings across 30 starts. He also led the league in HR/9 (0.6).

OF Wilyer Abreu – $368,745

Abreu, a Rookie of the Year candidate, hit. 253 with a .781 OPS, 15 home runs, 58 RBIs and eight stolen bases in his first full season. He also earned a Gold Glove for his play in right field.

SP Kutter Crawford – $237,986

Crawford, in his first season as a full-time starter, posted a 4.36 ERA, 1.122 WHIP and 8.6 K/9 in 183 2/3 innings over a league-high 33 starts.
