Ahead of the Week 15 game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Las Vegas Raiders superstar edge rusher Maxx Crosby has been ruled out.
Crosby was added to the injury report this week with an ankle issue and wasn’t able to practice at all, which led to him being ruled out on Saturday. This will be just the second game Crosby has missed in his entire career.
But it looks as though Crosby is going to miss more than just Week 15, and he has likely played his last snap of 2024. Here’s the latest injury update on Crosby.
Maxx Crosby injury update
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Crosby is set to undergo arthroscopic ankle surgery that is expected to end his season.
“Raiders three-time Pro Bowl DE Maxx Crosby, who already has been ruled out for Monday night’s game vs. the Falcons due to his ankle injury, is expected to undergo arthroscopic ankle surgery that likely will end his 2024 season, league sources told ESPN,” Schefter reported.
Crosby initially suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 3 that forced him to miss the Week 4 game. Crosby was able to return after missing just one game, which is a far quicker recovery than is typical for such an injury. It isn’t clear if this is the same ankle, though, but chances are it is.
With the 2-11 Raiders having nothing to play for in terms of the playoffs, shutting Crosby down for the final four games is the right course of action.
Not only does that help the Raiders avoid Crosby coming down with something more significant that could impact him into 2025, it’ll also help their chances of losing, which is the ideal outcome every week as Las Vegas hopes to secure the No. 1 selection in next year’s draft.
