Heading into the 2025 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks will likely have a few clear roster needs. Assuming they can’t fill all their holes at the line of scrimmage in free agency, then they’ll have to hit the trenches hard in this upcoming draft class – and on both sides. Offensively, they need as much help as they can get at guard and it wouldn’t hurt to pick up some more competition at center.
Defensively, Seattle will most likely need to replace a pair of aging interior linemen who will probably be out of the picture by April. That would be Johnathan Hankins and Jarran Reed, who are both over 30 years old and not under contract in 2025.
Given how much they have invested in their iDL rotation in recent years, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the Seahawks decide to start off on that note again with their first-round draft pick. In a new mock from Rob Rang at Fox Sports that’s just what they do, taking Michigan nose tackle Kenneth Grant (6-foot-3, 340 pounds) at 23rd overall.
Fox Sports on Kenneth Grant-Seahawks mock pick
“The Seahawks invested “heavily” on defensive tackles last year with the trade for Leonard Williams and drafting of Byron Murphy II in the first round. Not coincidentally, Seattle’s run defense has vastly improved. At 6-foot-3 and 340 pounds, Grant has the bulk to excel at nose guard in Mike Macdonald’s defense…”
Grant didn’t see much playing time until the 2023 season, but since then he’s been exceptionally productive for his position. In his last 27 games Grant has totaled 69 combined tackles (12 for a loss), 6.5 sacks and 10 passes deflected.
It certainly hasn’t hurt that Grant has gotten to line up with Mason Graham, who’s the number one overall interior prospect in this upcoming draft class. Graham is projected to be a top-five overall pick, so he’ll be out of Seattle’s range. However, Pro Football Focus has Grant ranked second among all interior defensive linemen and 25th overall in his class. The scouting report on Grant mentions his pro size and a sharp swim move, but also some inconsistency against the run.
The Seahawks’ offensive line is probably a more urgent need overall, but given what we know about how John Schneider feels about guards and the Michigan connection, there’s a good chance Grant will be a legitimate first-round target for this team.
