The Dallas Mavericks could go big-name hunting with their championship window wide open.
A six-time All-Star with ties to Texas has recently been linked to the franchise, but another superstar could become available. Former Dallas guard Raymond Felton suggested the Mavs should go after Paul George during the offseason.
George signed with the Philadelphia 76ers after a five-year run with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Here’s what a proposed trade could look like if the Mavs decide to revisit George’s situation in Philadelphia.
Proposed Trade Details:
Mavericks Receive: Paul George, Andre Drummond
Sixers Receive: Maxi Kleber, Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford, Quentin Grimes, Jaden Hardy, 2025 First-Round Pick
This is a move that could make sense for both teams.
George may not be a long-term fit in Philly and his contract expires in 2028.
The Sixers could look to rid themselves of his lucrative contract as soon as possible to help them kickstart a rebuild or retooling process. Even though Thompson’s contract is just one year shorter than George’s, Thompson’s contract is significantly cheaper every year.
Though the Mavs might be reluctant to trade one of Luka Doncic’s preferred lob targets, acquiring Drummond could help soften the blow and ultimately help Dereck Lively II take that next step in his game.
Grimes and Hardy also have solid upside at the guard position, which would help bolster a thin guard rotation behind Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain.
George would be a nice fit next to Doncic and Kyrie Irving, given his ability to create his own shot and guard multiple positions.
You can never have too many shot-creators or reliable defenders deep in the playoffs, especially guys with the pedigree of PG-13.
However, this trade happening is unlikely. The Sixers will likely want to give the George experiment more time to work, and all the Mavs may need to add is another 3-and-D wing to give Doncic and Irving more room to operate.
