Arsenal vs. Monaco lineups, starting 11, confirmed team news and injuries: Tierney to ease Arteta’s defensive woes?

Arsenal will aim to strengthen their claims for a top-eight finish in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League when they host Monaco.

The Gunners bounced back from a 1-0 defeat at Inter Milan by hammering Sporting CP 5-1 last time out, leaving them well-placed to secure an automatic place in the last 16.

Monaco are level on 10 points with Mikel Arteta’s side, having beaten Barcelona, Red Star Belgrade and Bologna this season before losing 3-2 to Benfica in their previous Champions League match

Arsenal vs. Monaco lineups, starting 11, team news

Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel missed training on Tuesday, with their recent Arsenal absences set to continue. To compound matters, Jurrien Timber, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Thomas Partey were also absent.

William Saliba and  Jakub Kiwior are set to continue at centre-back but the full-back positions become more of a problem, especially when considering Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu‘s existing complaints. If Timber is able to recover, he should start at right-back, while Kieran Tierney could make his first appearance for the Gunners since August 2023.

In midfield and attack, with the exception of Partey, Arteta has close to a full complement to choose from.

Arsenal predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Raya (GK) — Timber, Saliba, Kiwior, Tierney — Odegaard, Jorginho, Odegaard — Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

Injured: White, Tomiyasu, Calafiori, Gabriel, Partey, Zinchenko, White, Tomiyasu, Timber (doubt)
Suspended: None

Florian Balogun (shoulder) will miss out on a reunion with his former club and is sidelined along with ex-Chelsea man Denis Zakaria, Krepin Diatta (muscular) and Edan Diop (foot).

Monaco predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Majecki (GK) — Vanderson, Salisu, Kehrer, Henrique — Matazo, Camara — Akliouche, Ben Seghir, Golovin — Embolo

Injured: Balogun, Zakaria, Diatta, Diop
Suspended: Singo, Mawissa
