When Los Angeles Chargers fans think of Ryan Leaf, the word that immediately comes to mind is “bust”. The No. 2 overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, Leaf is considered one of the biggest draft busts in history.
But the Chargers and Leaf are long removed from one another. In fact, Leaf has been out of the NFL since 2002 and he has done some work to get his name out of negative sentences for quite some time. He has worked as a football analyst for ESPN and most recently, was hired by the CW Network to call college football games.
WWE NXT appears on the CW every Tuesday night and on the most recent edition of the show, Leaf appeared in a backstage segment.

Twitter/X was full of surprising reactions.
Ryan Leaf, former Chargers QB, appears on WWE NXT
Leaf appeared in a backstage segment with Lexis King, giving a motivational speech to King, who is undergoing a bit of a character change.
King is the son of the late Brian Pillman, a WWE Superstar who had a short NFL career himself. He was with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Miami (Ohio) and nearly made the roster of the Buffalo Bills in 1985.
He was also a college roommate of current Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
It’s unlikely that Leaf takes on a recurring role on the show, but it was a fun little segment for one episode. NXT can be seen on the CW Network each Tuesday starting at 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT.
