Flyers’ Trevor Zegras extends NHL record shootout percentage with filthy goal vs. Islanders

Trevor Zegras was already the NHL’s all-time best shootout scorer before Friday night.

But he figured he might as well raise that record, not come back toward the pack.

The Philadelphia Flyers took on the New York Islanders and were tied 3-3 after overtime.

That set up Zegras to show off his magic.

He went slow, slow, slow and then sped up.

Zegras went as if to go left, then crossed back over and flipped a back-handed shot up and over the goaltender.

He entered the night having made 16 of 24 in his shootout career.

That’s now 17 for 25.

That works out to a 68% conversion rate for Zegras.

It’s not supposed to look this easy. And he doesn’t always do the same thing.

But more and more, the result is the same.

The puck is normally in the back of the net.
