The talent in the NBA in this era of basketball is so far through the roof that it’s sometimes hard to fully appreciate.
These dudes are just so, so, so good at this game.
Sometimes, the best evidence of that shows up in weird ways.
Like a post-practice video of Kevon Looney.
Looney, the Golden State Warriors’ champion center, is now with the New Orleans Pelicans. And he’s not a guy anyone has ever thought of as being too skilled.
For a center, Looney isn’t a super athletic or long player, and he isn’t known for having a great offensive game.
Except after a recent New Orleans practice, footage showed that Looney is an absurdly good basketball player.
He just doesn’t always get to break out these skills on an NBA team, where he has a very different role.
Check it out:

This often shows up in offseason highlight videos of centers.
Knicks center Mitchell Robinson, for example, displays a crazy perimeter game in summer footage.
Ben Simmons, thought of as a total non-shooter, also always looked particularly gifted offensively in his offseason videos.
Players get back to NBA action and have different roles.
But when they’re up against mere mortals, even the glue guys are more talented than you could ever imagine.
