The Denver Broncos are pushing toward the top of the mountain known as the NFL power rankings. This week, they gained another spot without even having to play a game.
While the Broncos were resting up during their bye week, last week’s No. 1 team, the Philadelphia Eagles, gave up a 21-point lead in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. That allowed some teams to move up, with the Broncos going from No. 3 to No. 2, behind only the Los Angeles Rams, in the most recent rankings put out by Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News.
“The Broncos have been ripping through the league with an elite defense giving them a high floor every week and Bo Nix ready to come through in the fourth quarter to ensure some winning finishes. They need to get a little more consistent on offense to be true Super Bowl contenders”, wrote Iyer.
Iyer still values the Broncos in the rankings over the New England Patriots, who are technically the AFC’s No. 1 seed due to having 10 wins on the season, while the Broncos only have nine. However, the Patriots have yet to have their bye week.
The Broncos will take on the Washington Commanders in Week 13 in a game that will be played on Sunday Night Football. For those around the country who have not seen how good the Broncos’ defense is this season, that could be a great showcase to end Thanksgiving weekend.

The Rams, who are the best-looking team in the NFC at the moment, will be on the road against the Carolina Panthers. If the Rams somehow lose that game and the Broncos can beat a Commanders team that likely won’t have Jayden Daniels in the lineup, the Broncos could claim the No. 1 spot in next week’s rankings.
