They are one step away from taking home their first World Series since 1993. However, they need to get through Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Friday, who is coming off two complete-game wins over his last two starts.
Despite Toronto’s season still going on, it is never too early to think about next season. Whether they win the World Series or not, the club will face some tough questions over the winter.
Blue Jays urged to re-sign former AL Cy Young Award winner in free agency
The Blue Jays are at risk of losing their star shortstop, Bo Bichette, this winter. He will become a free agent, and there could be lots of teams interested in acquiring his set of skills..
They are also at risk of losing Shane Bieber, who is coming off a great performance in Game 4 of the World Series. The former AL Cy Young Award winner could also generate quite the interest over the offseason, but according to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, he is the player Toronto should focus on re-signing.
“Meanwhile, if that rotation loses all of Chris Bassitt, Max Scherzer, and Bieber this winter, whether they have the arms to run it back again as AL East champions becomes questionable, at best.”
On top of Bieber, the Blue Jays are also at risk of losing Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt as well. Miller emphasizes bringing back Bieber to save part of the rotation more than trying to retain Bo Bichette, which could get rather pricey.
While the fans would love to see Bichette return, that might not be feasible. Toronto, unlike the New York Yankees, has a limited amount of money at its disposal that it will need to use wisely.
