The Toronto Blue Jays started Game 5 of the World Series in the most emphatic way possible.
First up was Davis Schneider, getting the start as a right-handed hitter against the southpaw Blake Snell.
First pitch, Schneider turned on a fly ball deep to left, just past the leaping outfielder, gone, 1-0.

Then it was Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He had the courtesy to take one pitch.
But on the second pitch to Vladdy, he turned on it, too. His had no chance of being caught. See ya, 2-0.

It’s the first time in World Series history that players went back-to-back home runs to start a game.
The World Series has been played since 1903. That’s a lot of top-of-the-first innings. And never before has this been done.
For Guerrero, it continued one of the best hitting postseasons ever. He now has eight home runs, tying Shohei Ohtani for the playoff lead.
Schneider hasn’t started since Game 1. He pretty much only starts against lefties.
But back out there and ready to go, Schneider didn’t miss.
What a start for the Blue Jays.
