Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is often much-maligned in how he runs his football team as a general manager, and his latest comments only confirm that football isn’t at the top of his priority list.
As owner/general manager, one would think that at this time of the season, with the team at 3-4-1 and having the league’s worst defense, that as a general manager, he would be working tirelessly to improve the football team.
Cue the laughter from Cowboys Nation.
That has never been Jerry’s strong suit, and now here come his comments in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, which only confirm that, inexplicably, football isn’t high on Mr. Jones’ list of priorities as an NFL general manager.
“There’s $100 billion present value with gas out there,” Jones said. “That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense with the Dallas Cowboys.”
Yeah, Jerry really said that. As an NFL general manager, football isn’t high on his to-do list.
As the star turns, my friends.
Yes this is a real quote from Jerry Jones within the last 24 hours… FML
“There’s $100 billion present value with gas out there,” Jones told the WSJ in an interview. “That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense with the Dallas Cowboys.”

Cowboys need Jerry to be a proper GM
Fans have been saying this for years, despite many knowing this would never happen, because Jerry likes to be in complete control, which he is, and there is no blowback for the poor performances of the team because the owner is the general manager.
How many NFL general managers would have lasted over the past decade with the Cowboys based on what has transpired on the field? You can make the case that none of them would have.
Jerry needs to start doing his job properly as an NFL general manager, and if he can’t, get someone in to do the job because right now, the Cowboys will never win a Super Bowl or even be a proper contender with Jerry being more focused on oil than football.
Granted, that’s his prerogative, but for Cowboys fans to hear their own say what he said to the Wall Street Journal only reinforces that football is never the focus.
And it’s no wonder the Cowboys haven’t even sniffed an NFC Championship game.
Leopards don’t change their spots, and unfortunately, Jerry will never change his.
