World Series 2025 final score: Trey Yesavage throws gem vs. Dodgers to put Blue Jays on brink of title

JUMP TO:

Trey Yesavage did it again.

The Toronto Blue Jays rookie starter has been a revelation in the playoffs, and he threw another great game vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 as Toronto won the game 6-1.

The Blue Jays opened the game with a bang, with Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero hitting back-to-back homers in the first inning before Blake Snell recorded an out. It turns out that would be all Yesavage needed to get Toronto’s third win of the series.

Yesavage allowed a Kiké Hernández home run in the third inning, which cut the lead to 2-1, but he was outstanding otherwise. The 22-year-old produced 12 strikeouts, which is now the most for a rookie in a World Series game in MLB history, and his second ten-strikeout game of the postseason.

In his final line, Yesavage went seven innings, allowing one run, three hits, and no walks with 12 strikeouts.

Opposing Yesavage was Snell, who had a solid performance, but was let down by his defense and bullpen in the end. Snell left the game allowing five runs in 6.2 innings, but one was due to a misplay by Teoscar Hernandez, and the last two came after Edgardo Henriquez allowed both to score in the seventh inning.

The Dodgers’ offense remained quiet, as the top four hitters combined for just one hit and eight strikeouts in 15 plate appearances. For Los Angeles to survive this series, the team will need its offense to breakout in Toronto.

Now, the Blue Jays are one win away from their first title since 1993, and the Dodgers need to win two games on the road to secure their repeat.
