Manchester City were on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa in their last Premier League clash on October 26 at Villa Park.
Following this loss that concluded their five-match undefeated streak, City are now fifth in the top flight with 16 points in nine matches.
Man City are now six points behind table-toppers Arsenal, which has raised concerns and questions about Pep Guardiola’s side’s chances in the Premier League title race.
Guardiola, however, remained optimistic about City’s odds in the title race, conveying that he is not worried at this point in the campaign, and is rather focused on how his squad can ‘improve’ further.
Now, one of Man City’s summer signings, Tijjani Reijnders, has shared the same opinion as the Catalan manager when asked about his take on whether his side can still finish top in the league.

Speaking after the defeat on Sunday, Reijnders candidly admitted that their display against Villa was not their best and said,

“I don’t think it’s the inconsistency. The streak we set is pretty long. But we know this game we weren’t at our best and we can do much better. With the amount of games we play each week, we have to [put this result aside],” as per BBC Sport.
“We have to focus on Wednesday against Swansea, we have to recover well and be ready for that game.”
The Dutchman then mentioned that City ‘can close’ the points gap with a ‘long journey’ left in the league for this campaign, and added,
“Of course. It’s a long journey and there are a lot of games coming. Six points – we can close that gap of course, as long as we focus on ourselves I have a lot of trust in that.”
“It’s a bummer that we lost here, but it’s a long journey in this league and we have plenty of games. We have to keep working and keep fighting for the Premier League.”
Man City are now headed to face Championship club Swansea in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on October 29. Following that, Guardiola & Co. will return to Premier League action by hosting Bournemouth at Etihad Stadium on November 2.
