NBA fans shouldn’t be surprised to see Victor Wembanyama as the player to watch in the opening stretch of the 2025–26 regular season. Putting up video-game-like numbers, the 7-4 phenom is averaging 31.0 points, 13.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals on 60.3 percent shooting from the field.
While the San Antonio Spurs have stormed out to a 4–0 start, the best record in the Western Conference, there’s another number that’s catching everyone’s attention: 4.8. That’s how many shots Wembanyama has swatted per game through four contests, not only leading the NBA but also putting himself on pace for a potential place in history.
During Monday night’s 121–103 win over the Toronto Raptors, Wembanyama recorded one block, officially surpassing Patrick Ewing in fourth place for the most consecutive games with at least one rejection. His streak now sits at 89 straight games. To take sole possession of the record, he’d need 57 more consecutive games, a mark currently held by Ewing himself — 145 games from the 1988–89 season.

Balancing elite production on both ends of the floor is no easy task, but it’s one Wembanyama makes look effortless. His rare combination of length, coordination and timing has made him both an offensive and defensive nightmare.
On Friday, October 24, Wembanyama tallied nine blocks against the New Orleans Pelicans, coming just one shy of a triple-double with points, rebounds and blocks.

San Antonio’s overall improvement has played a major role in his success as well. With the rise of Stephon Castle and the exciting rookie Dylan Harper, Wembanyama no longer carries the full weight of both ends. His defensive mastery, though, remains the team’s foundation — and his impact has turned him into one of the most feared matchups in the league.
Whether Wembanyama can continue this historic streak seems almost inevitable. How long it lasts, however, is something only time will tell.
