Browns’ Andrew Berry open to trading nine-year veteran safety

The Cleveland Browns are coming off a tough loss to the New England Patriots in Week 8, and now heading into their Week 9 bye, the Browns will have time to reevaluate their roster for the upcoming trade deadline.

Sitting at 2-6 after the Patriots’ loss, the Browns and Andrew Berry are mulling their trade options. While players like David Njoku have been prominently named, another player has emerged as a serious trade deadline candidate.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Browns are open to trading away nine-year veteran journeyman safety Rayshawn Jenkins. With the 31-year-old on a one-year deal, Jenkins makes a lot of sense as a trade deadline candidate for the Browns.

Browns open to trading away nine-year veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins

“The Browns are open to trading veteran safety and special-teamer Rayshawn Jenkins, per sources,” Schultz reports.

Jenkins has appeared in all eight games this season for the Browns, getting the start just once. He has one interception, one pass defended, one fumble recovery, 21 tackles, and on seven targets, he’s allowed just three catches for 68 yards and a 39.3 passer rating.

In his nine-year NFL career, Jenkins has spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and, right before the Browns, the Seattle Seahawks.

The veteran safety has 11 career interceptions, and two touchdowns, one a pick-six in 202, and a 102-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown with Seattle in 2024.

He’s a quality depth piece in the secondary at worst, playing 22 percent of the Browns’ safety snaps, while also being a core special teamer. As Schultz mentions, Jenkins has the most tackles on special teams this season.

While not the flashiest move, adding a player like Jenkins would be a smart move for many teams around the NFL. Now that the Browns and Andrew Berry are open to a trade, Jenkins could be on his way to a new team once again in his career, but for the first time in a mid-season deal.

Jenkins is one of many names to keep an eye on for the Browns as the trade deadline approaches. As Schultz reports, the Browns are open to moving him at the trade deadline, and he could be a cheap pickup for a contender in the next week.
