Aaron Rodgers stats vs. Packers: Steelers QB enjoys solid day in loss to Green Bay

JUMP TO:

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 8 clash with the Green Bay Packers wasn’t quite a homecoming for Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers quarterback spent 18 years in Green Bay, tearing the record book from the most historic franchise in league history into shreds.

His first matchup with his former employers took place in Acrisure Stadium, not Lambeau Field — the humble abode that housed him as he picked up four MVPs, four All-Pro appearances, a Super Bowl ring and a bust in Canton when he retires.

Nevertheless, the matchup proved an emotional one for Rodgers. When the dust settled, the Packers emerged as victors, downing Pittsburgh, 35-25. Rodgers, to his credit, was solid, producing 219 yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-36 passing.

He was second-best to his former understudy, Jordan Love — who tallied 360 yards and three touchdowns. Still, Rodgers was solid, albeit he slowed as a nine-point Steelers advantage dissipated in the second half.

The Sporting News tracked live updates from the Pittsburgh and Green Bay’s matchup on “Sunday Night Football.” Below are highlights, analysis and more from Rodgers’ first duel against the Packers.

Aaron Rodgers live updates, highlights from ‘Sunday Night Football’

(All times ET)

11:40 p.m.: The Packers down the Steelers, 35-25 after Love tallies 360 yards and three touchdowns. The teacher and the pupil meet midfield as a procession of cameramen stream onto the pitch.

11:25 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Rodgers finds Roman Wilson in the back of the end zone! There’s a little more than two minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Steelers are within 10, although their two-point conversion fell short. Only time will tell if that’s merely a consolation score.

Packers 35, Steelers 25

11:05 p.m.: Green Bay’s offense has revved things up as the half has worn on. It is the leaving Rodgers and Pittsburgh in the dust, with Jordan Love and Tucker Kraft coming up trumps.

11:00 p.m.: The Steelers’ attack has stalled to a halt in the second half. Rodgers has struggled mightily as Micah Parsons continues to breach the gates and dropped him on a number of occasions.

10:28 p.m.: Boswell laces another, this time from 56 yards out. Pittsburgh adds to their advantage with his fourth successful kick of the day.

10:23 p.m.: Rodgers got away with one there. After being corralled by a sea of Packers linemen, the wily veteran intentionally dropped the ball before being sacked, resulting in what looked to be a fumble recovered by Green Bay. However, replay review exonerated Rodgers, with the referees ruling that the play was an incompletion. The Steelers retain possession deep in Packers territory.

10:15 p.m.: The Packers cut into Pittsburgh’s lead courtesy of a Jordan Love dart to Savion Williams. However, Pittsburgh has responded with a flourish, with Jaylen Warren coming up trumps on Pittsburgh’s first drive of the second half.

9:39 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Rodgers strikes from short range! He finds DK Metcalf from two yards out to push the Steelers’ advantage to nine!

Steelers 16, Packers 7

9:20 p.m.: The Steelers lead 9-7 after a trio of Boswell efforts. Rodgers has been held fairly quiet, completing 8-of-11 passes for 83 yards through 20 or so minutes.

8:55 p.m.: Rodgers hasn’t produced much more so far. After tallying 49 yards in his first drive, h only has 10 more in Pittsburgh’s ensuing two drives.

8:30 p.m.: Rodgers’ first drive of the day proved fairly efficient. He completed each of his three passes for 49 yards — 45 of which came on a completion to Roman Wilson. Pittsburgh is on the board via a Chris Boswell field goal.

7:55 p.m.: It seems many of the Packers fans who made the trek to Pittsburgh still hold positive feelings regarding Rodgers.

7:45 p.m.: Rodgers is out on the field! We’re about 35 minutes from the start of Sunday night’s contest!

7:30 p.m.: Rodgers has downed 31 of 32 NFL sides in his NFL career. The only team he has yet to defeat? The Packers. Can he make history tonight?
