Postseason pedigree vs. young upstarts. Lockdown pitching vs. explosive offense.
The Dodgers vs. Blue Jays matchup in the 2025 World Series provides a variety of fascinating storylines and subplots as the reigning champions look to add yet another ring while a team that finished last in its division a year ago looks for its first title since 1993.
The Blue Jays will have home-field advantage in the Fall Classic, with Rogers Centre hosting its first World Series games since Joe Carter hit one of the biggest home runs in MLB history. This time it will be Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leading the charge for Toronto after hitting .442 with six home runs and just three strikeouts in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
Vladdy and Co. will have to find a way to score against a loaded L.A. pitching staff that has allowed exactly one run in each of its last five postseason games. Oh, and Toronto’s arms will also need to slow down an October-tested lineup led by Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and other dangerous hitters.
Will the Dodgers become MLB’s first repeat champions since the 1998-2000 Yankees, or will the Jays bring the trophy back north of the border for the first time in 32 years? Here’s how to watch all the action:

When was the last World Series day game?
While start times in the 8 p.m. ET hour have been the standard for World Series games for decades, Fall Classic contests haven’t been played entirely under the lights in recent years. The Dodgers and Giants in particular have hosted numerous World Series games that at least began in the Pacific Time sunshine.
However, it has been nearly 40 years since the last Eastern time zone World Series day game — defined as starting before 5 p.m. — and longer than that since the last outdoor day game.
Game 6 of the 1987 World Series between the Twins and Cardinals started at 4 p.m. ET (3 p.m. local time in Minneapolis), but it was played in the cocoon of the Metrodome.
The last outdoor Fall Classic contest played mostly in the sun was the decisive Game 5 of the 1984 World Series between the Tigers and Padres. First pitch of that game on Sunday, Oct. 14 came at 4:45 p.m. ET in Detroit, and the sun set over the Motor City at 6:54 p.m. that day, so the last 45 minutes or so of the nearly three-hour classic that gave the Tigers their most recent title were still under the lights.
