Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. joins Bench, Mize, Yastrzemski in MLB playoff history

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is putting together one of the most magnificent postseasons swinging the bat in MLB history.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ superstar isn’t just slugging. He’s also refusing to strike out.

In the process, he’s joined an exclusive MLB club that hasn’t added a member in half a century.

How are these three names? Johnny Bench. Johnny Mize. Carl Yastrzemski.

And now Vladdy.

The feat in question: In the first nine home games of a player’s postseason career, hitting at least three home runs while striking out two or fewer times.

There’s an obvious reason this list hasn’t been added to in a long time. Players strike out way more in this era.

For good reason, too. The pitchers are filthy, especially with the parade of bullpen arms.

So for Guerrero to be doing this, shining so brightly in front of the Rogers Centre crowd, is really quite magical. It’s awesome. 

If he keeps this up, the Blue Jays may just bring the World Series home.
