The New York Knicks, still dealing with some injuries, are tweaking the starting lineup tonight.
According to the New York Post’s Stefan Bondy, fan favorite two-guard Deuce McBride will get the starting nod against the Boston Celtics.
It will only be the 29th start of McBride’s five-year NBA career.
Miles ‘Deuce’ McBride gets first start under Mike Brown
With Josh Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns both game-time decisions, head coach Mike Brown announced the starting lineup change before the game.
Brown commented on a potential five-out lineup with Jalen Brunson, McBride, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Towns.
“Everyone on the floor can shoot, has range and can play make. Defensively, a lot of interchangeable parts,” Brown said via The Athletic’s James Edwards.
Knicks fans aren’t used to this kind of versatility. Under Tom Thibodeau, New York was usually pretty rigid when it came to starters and depth usage.
Clearly, things under Brown are different.
In the Knicks’ season-opening win against the Cleveland Cavaliers, we saw 11 players hit more than eight minutes played, again, something you wouldn’t have seen under Thibs.
Even though it’s been only one game under the new head coach, Knicks fans are loving what they’re seeing, as evidenced by fan reaction online.
