The San Francisco Giants are coming off a solid season. They finished the year going 81-81, but that was not enough for them to grab a postseason spot.
Shortly after their regular season ended, they decided to dismiss manager Bob Melvin. The club wanted to go in a new direction, and they did just that.
They hired Tony Vitello to be their newest manager. He does not have any experience at the big-league level, but has been one of the best college coaches over the years with what he has done at the University of Tennessee.
Vitello has a lot of talent to work with, but it would not hurt to add more talent over the winter. They could do just that by making a blockbuster trade over the winter.
Giants linked to Tigers’ Tarik Skubal in latest trade rumors
The Athletic’s Jim Bowden recently came out with his list of most likely to be traded this offseason. Here, Detroit Tigers’ ace Tarik Skubal is the top option, and Bowden believes the Giants could acquire him, although they will have competition.
“Even though the Tigers are in position to compete for the postseason next year, it’s likely they shop Skubal at the Winter Meetings ad try to make the best trade they can with so many big market teams with deep farm systems obviously wanting him, such as the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Giants.”
If San Francisco wants to bolster their rotation with one of the best, they will have to go all out. None of those teams listed are afraid to get rid of top prospects to secure a star player.
