Liverpool suffer double injury blow in Champions League win

Liverpool snapped their four game losing streak in a thumping 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.

Arne Slot’s side had five different goalscorers, including former Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike.

Slot made several changes to his squad, most notably leaving Mohamed Salah on the bench to start the game.

Despite the win, there will be worries for Slot, with two starters coming off with injuries during the game.

Which starters went off injured for Liverpool?

Both Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong went off against Frankfurt and Slot has provided an update on what he knows about the injuries.

Isak came off with a groin injury, with Slot saying, “Alex went close a few times but had to go off at half-time. That’s the difficult balance we’re having with him. When he first came, he had hardly trained, so you bring him step by step.

Then you feel like, yeah, there must be a moment where he can play twice a week. The first time we try, he has to go off because he felt his groin a little bit.

“If he had been in the red zone, then we wouldn’t have played him. I’m hoping that this isn’t a bad one because if he would be out now for a few weeks that would put him back a lot.”

Frimpong came off in the first half with a hamstring injury, just shortly after returning from a similar injury.

On Frimpong, Slot said, “We know we have the quality and the team that can compete, but it’s not really helpful that with Alisson being out, with Giovanni Leoni being out, I expect Jeremie to also definitely be out now for a few weeks.

“Jeremie only came back from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago. He played for the national team one game, came back to us and now unfortunately, he had to go off.”

Liverpool travel to Brentford for their next Premier League match, followed by a Carabao Cup showdown against Crystal Palace midweek.
