Less than two years ago, the Calgary Flames were pumped to acquire Daniil Miromanov in a trade.
Now, he’s on his way out.
The Flames placed the 28-year old defenseman on waivers on Monday, according to Sportsnet’s Pat Steinberg. The plan is to activate the injured Martin Pospisil into that spot.
Miromanov could be claimed on waivers, or he could end up in the AHL if not.
He was a returning piece in the early 2024 trade that sent Noah Hanifan to the Vegas Golden Knights.
In the ending stages of the 2023-24 season, Miromanov played 20 games for Calgary and tallied seven points.
Last season, it wasn’t as smooth. Miromanov played just 44 games in the 2024-25 campaign, often a healthy scratch instead of being on the ice. He had just nine points in that span.
This season, the Flames have only had Miromanov active for one of their first six games.
The AHL Calgary Wranglers would be the destination for Miromanov if he isn’t claimed on waivers.
Pro Hockey Rumors’ Gabriel Foley thinks there’s a chance he’s claimed, though, writing:
“Going unclaimed could be tough for a 6-foot-4, right-shot defenseman. That frame, and a history of strong minor-league scoring, could be enough to tempt a team with roster flexibility to take their chance on reworking his game.”
All told, Miromanov has played 94 NHL games, and there are likely more in his future, whether with Calgary or elsewhere.
