Saints running back Alvin Kamara expected to play Week 6 against Patriots

The New Orleans Saints, coming off their first win since December of 2024, were dealt some concerning news when star running back Alvin Kamara was dealing with an injured ankle at practice.

While Keandre Miller has been impressive in limited work this year, losing Kamara for a game would still sting. With the Saints hosting the New England Patriots, Kellen Moore and the offense could be without one of their best offensive playmakers.

However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Saints’ star running back is expected to suit up for Week 6. Kamara, listed as questionable with an ankle injury, is expected to play against the Patriots.

Saints’ Alvin Kamara expected to play in Week 6 vs Patriots

Kamara is dealing with an ankle injury and was listed as questionable heading into the Sunday afternoon matchup. But the Saints won’t have to miss their Pro Bowl running back, as he’s set to play against a red-hot Patriots team.

New Orleans is welcoming the Patriots, who are coming off an impressive Sunday Night Football victory over the Buffalo Bills. New England is a team on the rise, and the Saints will need everyone ready to go to upset New England.

Having Kamara in the lineup would be a great start, even though he hasn’t been as dominant as he normally is this season.

Through five games, the five-time Pro Bowler has 283 rushing yards on 73 attempts for 3.9 yards per attempt, tied for the second-lowest of his NFL career. Kamara also has 17 receptions for 77 yards so far this season, averaging 4.5 yards per reception, by far the lowest he’s been in his nine-year NFL career.

Another area of concern is that Kamara has just one touchdown so far. He’s been less efficient, and he’s also not scoring as much as he normally does. He’s averaging just four yards per touch, with the next lowest total coming in 2023 with 4.5 yards per touch.

However, even though he’s had his struggles, having the veteran running back in the backfield is a welcome presence for the Saints’ offense.

Spencer Rattler and the offense having Kamara as an option is good news for the Saints, especially with the Patriots matchup being a tough one. Kamara is expected to be good to go for Week 6, a sigh of relief after a mid-week injury scare for the 30-year-old running back.
