Bayern Munich had a tough summer transfer window as they struggled to secure their primary target but they somehow managed to sign players like Luis Diaz and Nicolas Jackson on loan to fill the void in attack.
The void initially got created because they allowed the departure of star players like Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman.
While Muller moved to Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS, Sane joined Galatasaray after his contract expired and lastly, Coman moved to Saudi Pro League as Al Nassr showed interest in the Frenchman.
Initially, Bayern Munich had no interest of selling Coman this summer but eventually they decided to offload the 29-year-old against the wishes of Vincent Kompany.
Recently, he sat down for an interview where he spoke his heart out about his departure from Bayern Munich, new experiences in Saudi Arabia and a lot more.
“At the very end of the transfer, there were things – which I won’t mention – that complicated the situation. I wasn’t pushed out, but I was told that the club was open to a departure due to its financial situation,” Coman told L’Equipe about his Bayern departure.

“I had the love of the coach, the fans, some people on the board… but not everyone. There was a part of the club that wanted me to leave. And that part took up a lot of space in my mind. But I’m going to come back to say my goodbyes, because I spent almost ten years there, and it’s the club that remains closest to my heart.”
Coman landed in Munich back in 2015 on loan from Juventus and since then he featured in 339 appearances for the German giants while netting 72 goals which includes the winner against PSG in the 2020 Champions League final.
What did Coman say about moving to Saudi over other European clubs?
Coman was close to staying at Bayern Munich beyond this summer as Kompany wanted him to stay in Bavaria.
However, Al Nassr’s offer was too good to reject for the 29-year-old, who also considered several other European teams before eventually move to Saudi Arabia to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I totally understand, even I was surprised [laughs]. At the start of the transfer window, in my head, I saw myself playing one more season at Bayern. In the end, Al-Nassr were interested in my situation, and the transfer was completed in five days. I weighed the pros and cons. I felt it was the best solution,” Coman stated when asked about his decision to move to Al Nassr at the age of 29.
When asked if he could have joined other European clubs, Coman told Le Parisien, “I had approaches from England and Spain, but at most of those clubs, I was just an option. If they chose me, it was perhaps because two other players didn’t want to join them or because I had lower financial expectations. At Bayern, I was already one of the options, but I was known and respected within the club. I don’t think it made sense to go elsewhere in Europe. If I took into account my family situation, the finances, and the sporting project, Bayern offered the best conditions in Europe.”
The Frenchman has had a great start to life at Al Nassr as he has already adapted to life in Saudi Pro League netting three goals and providing five assists in nine appearances across competitions.
