The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to take on the Philadelphia Phillies in an NLDS matchup that features a plethora of star power. On the Dodgers’ side, it has been a question of how future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw will be used.
Kershaw was left off the wild card series roster, but manager Dave Roberts made it clear that he would be on the NLDS roster if the Dodgers were to advance. Well, they did, and now Roberts has clarified how Kershaw will be used in this upcoming series.
Clayton Kershaw to be used in a bullpen role vs. the Phillies
When meeting with the media on Friday, Dave Roberts confirmed that Clayton Kershaw will be on the NLDS roster and used in a relief role.
Now, this won’t be the first time Kershaw will be coming out of the bullpen this season. He recently announced that he will be retiring after this year. And since the Dodgers’ starting rotation is already full, there is no space for Kershaw, which is shocking to even write.
In the Dodgers’ last regular-season series of the year, Kershaw was used out of the bullpen against the Diamonbacks and delivered a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth.
Roberts will be tasked with a tough assignment, deciding when to pull the right strings in this series with Philadelphia. In the Dodgers’ series against the Reds, starters Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto looked phenomenal, but after that, the Reds were able to get a lot more traffic on the bases and put up crooked numbers off the Dodgers’ relievers.
This will certainly be an NLDS you don’t want to miss.
