Yankees’ Cam Schlittler sets absurd fastball velocity record for New York vs. Red Sox

Cam Schlittler brings the heat.

In fact, no New York Yankees’ starting pitcher has ever thrown quite like the rookie right-hander.

Schlittler set a record in just one inning on Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the AL Wild Card Series.

In the first inning, Schlittler threw six pitches of 100 miles per hour or more.

In the entire pitch-tracking era (2008), Yankees starting pitchers in the playoffs had thrown a total of five pitches of 100 miles per hour, in all innings.

MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch shared this stat.

Schlittler also struck out two hitters on triple-digit velocity pitches, which is tied for third in MLB history since the pitch tracking era began in 2008.

Velocity isn’t a guarantee of anything, but it can be an equalizer.

Hitters getting just a tad less time to react can make all the difference in a sport where hitting is already so hard to begin with.

No matter whether or not the Yankees win on Thursday night, Schlittler is a major part of their future.

And in the biggest start of his life, the adrenaline was certainly flowing. He was bringing all the heat.

It’s a bright future in the Bronx.
