Arsenal vs. West Ham lineups: Predicted starting XI, team news, injury latest as Declan Rice returns

Arsenal sign off for the international break with a home Premier League clash against West Ham United on October 4.

Mikel Arteta’s side warmed up for the visit of the Hammers with a 2-0 midweek Champions League win over Olympiacos, as goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka sealed victory against the Greek champions.

On the domestic front, Arsenal have closed the title gap to two points behind leaders Liverpool with two wins and a draw in their past three league matches, most recently in that dramatic game at Newcastle United.

West Ham’s decision to sack Graham Potter following a miserable start to the season, has quickly ushered Nuno Espirito Santo back into Premier League management.

After 18 months in charge at Nottingham Forest, Nuno was only out of work for three weeks following his dismissal at The City Ground, and he opened up his West Ham tenure with a 1-1 draw at Everton.

Arteta made six starting changes for the win over Olympiacos and he will rotate again to keep his squad fresh.

Gabriel was withdrawn in the closing stages, but Arteta indicated post-game that he expected the Brazilian to be okay to face West Ham, with Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafori set to return at full-back.

Martin Odegaard’s superb performance in midweek should keep him in the starting XI with Declan Rice to be recalled alongside the Norwegian.

Saka looks fit to start, but Arteta faces a selection headache on the left of his attack, with Martinelli battling Eberechi Eze.

Arsenal predicted starting XI (4-3-3, right to left): Raya (GK) — Timber, Gabriel, Saliba, Calafiori — Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice — Saka, Gyokeres, Martinelli

Injured: Jesus (ACL), Havertz (knee), Madueke (knee), Hincapie (groin)
Suspended: None

Nuno praised the grit of his new team in battling back to land a draw at Everton last time out, and the visitors may be unchanged.

Czechia international Tomas Soucek remains out, as he serves the final game of a three-match ban, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka sidelined with a stomach issue.

West Ham predicted starting XI (4-5-1, right to left): Areola (GK) — Walker-Peters, Mavropanos, Kilman, Diouf — Bowen, Fernandes, Magassa, Paqueta, Summerville — Fullkrug

Injured: Wan-Bissaka (stomach)
Suspended: Soucek
