Chiefs ‘aware’ of key battle ahead of Jaguars showdown

The Kansas City Chiefs will roll into EverBank Stadium to face the Jacksonville Jaguars looking to keep their good momentum rolling as they chase three consecutive wins.

The 3-1 Jaguars present a host of problems, particularly on defense, where Anthony Campanile’s unit has been one of the best units in football through the opening month, getting a whopping 13 turnovers and at least three in each game.

So that makes the turnover battle a huge watch here, with the Chiefs only having one to date through the first four games, and don’t think head coach Andy Reid doesn’t know the challenges Campanile’s defense presents for his offense.

“They’re leading the league in turnovers, No. 1 defense, you could start naming a ton of things on both sides of the ball that they’re really good at,” Reid said. “They catch the ball well, they’re disciplined in their lanes on their zone drops, opportunistic on tipped balls and they’ve stripped out a couple balls, so they go after it. You got to make sure you’re aware of that as you play them.”

Chiefs still on a good spot to slay Jaguars

While the Jaguars’ defense have been turnover merchants, they still give up yards, as they have allowed 350+ in two of their four games, so it isn’t like they are completely suffocating, it’s that the turnovers cripple the offense.

So, in theory, if the Chiefs care of the ball, they will still be able to move the ball as the San Francisco 49ers, despite four turnovers last week, still posted 389 total yards of offense.

So, there is a weakness there as the Jaguars give up yards through the air, on the ground not so much with the unit holding teams under 90 rush yards in their last three games.

Still, the key to winning this game and getting above .500 for Kansas City is to take care of the ball.

Do that, and half the battle is won.
