681 point forward reportedly retiring from the NHL

The NHL has lost one of great players in the modern game with forward Max Pacioretty reportedly retiring from the league via insider Nick Alberga.

Max Pacioretty most recently played with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. The 36 year old dealt with injuries in the regular season only playing 37 games, in which he recorded 5 goals and 8 assists.

However, it was in the postseason last year where Pacioretty ended on a strong note, registering 3 goals and 5 assists in 11 games. He provided the Leafs solid depth production while their top end offense fizzled out against Florida.

What is Pacioretty’s legacy?

Pacioretty was one of the top goal scorers in the game throughout his NHL tenure. On any given non-injury plagued year, he could normally be counted on for 30+ goal production in his prime.

“Patches” played his best hockey with his drafted team, the Montreal Canadiens. He spent a decade with the organization and served as their captain during a competitive era for the club.

He was also one of the first stars to suit up for the Vegas Golden Knights franchise, making a large impact with the team during his 4 year stint.

It is the last 3 years of his career where things took a turn. Pacioretty has suited up for 3 teams the last 3 seasons (Carolina, Washington, Toronto), years that have been heavily influenced by injuries.

Across his 939 game NHL career spread across 17 seasons, Pacioretty totaled 335 goals and 346 assists for 681 points in the regular season. In the playoffs, he touted 28 goals and 30 assists for 58 points in 89 games.
