Colorado receives promising Martin Necas contract update

As the NHL world currently navigates some messy big name incoming contract extensions across the league, one that has quietly gone under less notice is Colorado’s Martin Necas.

The recent Avalanche acquisition fit in nicely with the squad after being acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes this January in the blockbuster Mikko Rantanen trade. Necas enters the final year of his deal and is one of many big ticket 2026 UFA’s.

NHL insider Pierre LeBrun delivered the latest input on where Colorado and Necas’s camp stand at the moment as Avalanche fans await a resolution with one of their top players.

What is the latest on Necas?

Via Pierre LeBrun, the Avs and Necas’s party have not engaged in much contract talk thus far. They have reportedly not gotten far this early in the negotiations at the moment.

While that update may not be what fans were looking for, LeBrun provided further clarification that should provide some relief to Denver. He stated he believes Necas will still extend in Colorado amidst question marks over his long term future with the team. Various reports have suggested a repeat situation in Colorado for Necas that resembles how his stint in Carolina ended with him being in an unhappy there.

For now, Necas and the Avalanche will look to get off to a good start to what will be a high pressure season in Colorado. Fans will hope in the meantime through success on the ice that Necas contract talks will work themselves out.
