Yankees’ No.3 prospect acheives major minor league milestone

The New York Yankees’ front office decided in late July to promote the organization’s third-ranked prospect, Spencer Jones, to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre.

Jones had no trouble finding his footing with the Railrider. In his first 16 games with the Yankees’ top affiliate, Jones hit 10 home runs, five doubles, and hit .421.

He cooled off slightly throughout August, but he has still shown that he is a slugger the Yankees need to consider having on their Opening Day roster in 2026.

Spencer Jones has 35 home runs in the minors this season

Spencer Jones is putting together an incredible minor league system within the Yankees organization, and it seems as if he only got more comfortable when he was promoted to AAA.

In 49 games with AA Somerset, Jones hit .274 with 16 home runs and an OPS of .984.

The Yankees then decided he was hitting too good in Double-A, and decided to give him a crack at AAA, where he’s been equally as good. In 69 total games with Scranton- Wilkes Barre. Jones has 19 home runs, is slugging .555, and has an OPS of .897.

All in all, that’s 35 home runs, which makes him the first minor leaguer this season to hit 35 long balls.

Jones has five multi-homer games this season, which is impressive at any level. New York is rightfully so, being very cautious with one of its top prospects, but many Yankee fans will be eager to see what Jones can do in Spring Training this March, and if it’s enough to make the big-league roster from the jump.
