The Milwaukee Brewers are enjoying one of the best seasons in franchise history. They clinched the NL Central division on Sunday and have 95 wins this season, making them the only team in MLB within reach of 100 wins.
They are currently on the road playing against the San Diego Padres, who also clinched a playoff spot on Monday with their 11th-inning walkout.
However, the Brewers’ starter made franchise history in his series-opening start on Monday.
Brewers’ Freddy Peralta makes franchise history with six strikeouts
Despite the loss in the game, it was still another quality start for Freddy Peralta, who went five innings, allowing two runs and punching out six Padres’ batters.
With those six strikeouts, that puts Peralta at the 200 mark for the third consecutive season with the Brewers, joining Corbin Burnes and Yoani Gallardo as the only pitchers in team history to have 200 strikeouts in a season.
Peralta is having another stellar season as the Brewers’ ace. He’s 17-6 this season, with 32 starts under his belt, and has posted a 2.68 ERA in 174.2 innings. The 29-year-old might be having the best season of his career in 2025, and should certainly earn some NL CY Young votes this offseason.
The Milwaukee Brewers are likely going to be the top seed in the National League, which grants them a bye into the NLDS, but that is when they will be relying heavily on Peralta to anchor the starting staff and give Milwaukee quality starts.
Peralta is on an extremely team-friendly deal at six years, $22 million, but once he is eligible for free agency after the 2026 season, he’s surely going to be paid.
