There were many Cleveland Browns fans who wanted a new kicker after Week 1.
But Andre Szmyt was still around in Week 2, and he didn’t miss any kicks, although it didn’t matter much as the Baltimore Ravens crushed the Browns.
Cleveland may have no choice but to make a change for Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers.
Szmyt “felt something” in his left calf during Friday’s practice, head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters.

Stefanski added that, if they have to, the Browns will sign a new kicker to face the Packers.
It’s a rough week for special teams in Cleveland.
Punter Corey Bojorquez is also hurt. He got injured when his punt was blocked by the Ravens and the follow-through led to a bit of a collision.

Thus far, the Browns haven’t gotten replacements for either player, but the 24 hours or so between when Stefanski spoke to reporters on Friday and when Cleveland would ideally have its roster in place on Saturday could prove crucial.
If the Browns don’t sign someone to punt or kick by midday Saturday, it likely means their specialists are good to go.
But it wouldn’t be surprising for Cleveland to play it safe and get someone new for this week. The Packers are a tough enough opponent, even with a healthy kicker and punter.
