Jake Browning’s insane high school stats: Bengals QB holds crazy national records from Folsom days

There are good high school football players, and great high school football players, and then there’s Jake Browning.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ quarterback may have had the best on-paper high school football career of any QB, or maybe player, ever. At Folsom High School in California, Browning set records on top of records.

His numbers were so good that they’re almost impossible to comprehend. He didn’t even play varsity football as a freshman yet still rewrote the record books anyway.

Now is as good a time as ever to revisit Browning’s epic statistics that were a big part of his journey on the way to the NFL.

Jake Browning played three seasons of varsity quarterback at Folsom High School, a suburb east of Sacramento.

You won’t find better statistics anywhere.

As a senior, Browning averaged 5.7 touchdown passes per game. He had two games with eight touchdown passes and another three with seven.

He only had a combined 62 rush attempts his entire high school career for 110 yards and 13 TDs. He was back there chucking it.

Folsom won the CIF State D1 Championship in his senior year, going 16-0.

High school football records can be a bit tricky, but according to MaxPreps, Browning holds these national records:

  • Career passing yards (16,775)
  • Career completions (1,191)
  • Career attempts (1,708)
  • Career passing TDs (229)

Browning is also tied for the national single-season touchdown passes record, with the 91 he threw as a senior.

If you just want to watch a quarterback let it fly over and over, Browning’s high school highlights are for you.

After college, Browning went to the University of Washington. His best season was 2016, when he came in sixth in the Heisman voting.

Browning eventually came to the NFL as an undrafted player, and he’s made a career for himself as a solid backup who now gets to start in 2025 for the Bengals with Joe Burrow out.
