Tua Tagovailoa interceptions: Dolphins QB’s league-leading fourth pick leads to loss in Week 3 vs. Bills

The Miami Dolphins weren’t expected to be competitive in their Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills. Instead, the Dolphins hung tough and kept the contest way throughout the majority of the game.

The Dolphins looked poised to tie the game up late. Miami was driving, mixing their run and passing game all night to sustain drives on the Buffalo defense. Unfortunately, one play completely changed the game. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw an errant pass, and the Bills defense took advantage picking him off.

The Bills were able to chew out the clock, add a late field goal and leave the Dolphins with no time to mount a comeback. It was Miami’s third loss of the season, and the third game that ended with a bad play by their quarterback.

Here’s more on how Tagovailoa’s costly turnover led to the loss vs. Bills.

Tua Tagovailoa interceptions

Tagovailoa has struggled to begin the season. Miami is now 0-3, and the QB has had problems with holding on to the football. He entered Week 3 with three turnovers, all interceptions. In the loss to Buffalo, Tagovailoa had a fumble early, but was able to recover it. The lefty then made his biggest mistake of the game on the second to last drive. He looked right, but didn’t see a defender in the flat and threw it right at him.

It halted Miami’s momentum, and the Bills were able to drain the clock and put the game away on the next drive.

“I thought I was in rhythm, in timing of the play, seen the flat defender go over the top of Jaylen, Jaylen’s turning around,” Tagovailoa said after the game. “That was a really good play by the defender. I had some color in my face trying to maneuver the throw. But 10 out of 10 times, if we’re looking at that same thing, I think I’d still try to work that timing of hitting that spot. I think the linebacker made a great play on that.”

Tagovailoa is now tied for the league lead in interceptions with four. The quarterback threw two picks in the season-opening blowout loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and then threw another one interception in the Dolphins’ Week 2 loss to the New England Patriots.
