Yankees urged to pursue three-time All-Star in free agency if he opts out

Despite losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets and Gerrit Cole to the IL, the New York Yankees have looked great this season. The additions of players like Cody Bellinger, Max Fried, and Paul Goldschmidt, alongside others stepping up, have helped this team get on the right side of the win column.

The Bronx Bombers currently hold the top spot in the American League Wild Card race with just a few series left. They have their eyes set on returning to the postseason and avenging their World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

However, it is never too early to think about next season. There are some intriguing free agents and potential free agents that the club should consider signing this winter.

One area the Yankees had struggled with was trying to find someone to man third base. Fortunately, Ryan McMahon has stepped into that role after being traded from the Colorado Rockies.

He could get the short end of the stick if Boston Red Sox slugger Alex Bregman opts out of his contract. According to Sports Illustrated’s Patrick McAvoy, he could help solve many of the team’s problems.

“Third base has been a spot of need for the Yankees and Bregman will be the best player available, if he does opt out. The Yankees have gotten a good look at him over the years with the Houston Astros and now Boston. He’s a superstar who would give the Yankees something they are clearly missing.”

Bregman opting out has been widely speculated as the regular season winds down. If he does, expect the Yankees to do their best to get him to the Bronx.
