The Detroit Tigers’ lead in the AL Central is starting to shrink as the Cleveland Guardians have been making a strong push in the final weeks of the regular season.
Heading into Thursday, the Guardians are looking to sweep the Tigers and capture their seventh straight win.
In the divisional matchup, it appeared that the Tigers were dealt another scary injury early.
Tigers’ Colt Keith exits game vs. Guardians with apparent injury
In the second inning of the Detroit Tigers series finale against the Cleveland Guardians, utility man Colt Keith was running the bases after Parker Meadows hit a lineout to shortstop. He then grabbed his lower back while alerting A.J. Hinch to come out and check on him.
Keith would then exit the game and be replaced by Trey Sweeney. An injury like this comes at a concerning time in the season, as the Tigers are still fighting for the AL Central title.
Further information on the setback is yet to be released, but it looks like the Tigers have been dealt another concerning injury less than two weeks before the start of the postseason.

Colt Keith has served as a Detroit utility infielder, playing at both second and third base. His absence would take a toll on the Tigers’ infield depth, which is something that A.J. Hinch has been trying to figure out all season.
Through 136 games this season, Keith has a .254 batting average, .332 on-base percentage, .409 slugging percentage, .741 OPS, and a 1.6 WAR while hitting 13 home runs and 44 RBI.
