The Carolina Hurricanes are a team that has been expected to remain active on the market as the squad looks to load up and finally get over the hump this season.
The Hurricanes have been a consistent playoff threat throughout the 2020s, but have not been able to get past the eastern conference final and advance to the Stanley Cup.
There has been smoke around the possibility of the team making a late addition to the forward core and it appears that will be the case as the club has been linked to a controversial signing.
Who is reportedly on his way to Carolina?
Via insider David Pagnotta, the Canes will sign forward Michael McLeod when he is eligible to receive a deal. The 27 year old forward was recently acquitted and cleared to return to NHL action by the league after an investigation.
The Canadian forward last played in the NHL in the 23-24 season for the New Jersey Devils. In 285 career games with the organization, he amassed 29 goals and 56 assists for 85 points.
McLeod may not be the only controversial move the Canes make, as the team has also been linked to a potential Carter Hart signing in the future according to the same report. Hart was a part of the same investigation as McLeod, both are now in a position to resume on ice activity.
A Hart signing would make some sense for Carolina as goaltending has been an inconsistent position for the Hurricanes in recent seasons. Hart could provide the stability they have been searching for in the net.
