Knicks sign 25-year-old Lakers outcast to help Karl-Anthony Towns

With the New York Knicks making much-needed adjustments to their roster lately, various assets will begin training camp on a positive note.

A 25-year-old Los Angeles Lakers outcast is among those fortunate assets, as he signed a deal with the Knicks, led by Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson, on Tuesday afternoon.

“Knicks and Trey Jemison III have reached an agreement on a two-way contract,” SNY’s Ian Begley reported on X/Twitter. “Jemison III, a 6-foot-11, 270-pound big man, gives the Knicks added front-court depth. Knicks will enter training camp with one open two-way spot.”

Jemison hasn’t enjoyed a highly impactful NBA career through two seasons. Jemison, who was a member of the Washington Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies as a rookie, joined the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2024 free agency period.

After New Orleans waived Jemison in early January, the UAB product inked a contract with the Lakers, allowing him to take his talents to a large-market franchise.

The Birmingham, Alabama native only averaged 2.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in 22 clashes, causing the Lakers to move on from him after less than a full season.

While Jemison is still rough around the edges, his high motor and consistent defensive effort could help him turn the corner with the Knicks as a third-year pro.

Time will tell if the young big man figures it out in the big leagues before it’s too late.
