Knicks sign former Lakers big man to a two-way deal ahead of training camp

The New York Knicks are signing big man Trey Jemison III to a two-way deal, per SNY’s Ian Begley. The move adds to a long list of training camp signees that the Knicks have made in the last several days.

Jemison will fill one of the team’s three two-way spots. According to Begley, Kevin McCullar Jr. is also expected to be brought back on a two-way deal, leaving one spot remaining.

Jemison has appeared in 63 NBA games in his two-year career, averaging 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in that span. He has suited up for the Washington Wizards, Memphis Grizzlies New Orleans Pelicans, and most recently the Los Angeles Lakers. Last season, in time spent with the Pelicans and Lakers, he averaged 2.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in 38 appearances, all off the bench.

Jemison one of many new additions this week

Jemison will compete with other free agent signings that the Knicks have made ahead of training camp for a spot in Mike Brown’s rotation. Malcolm Brogdon, Landry Shamet, Garrison Mathews, and Alex Len are just some of the names that the Knicks have brought in to compete for the team’s last roster spots.

In the frontcourt, Jemison will have quite the uphill climb to reach rotational minutes with the Knicks. Their current center depth includes Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson, Ariel Hukporti, and Guerschon Yabusele. Additionally, the Knicks have brought in Alex Len on a training camp deal, who will also be competing for a roster spot.

As it stands, the Knicks enter training camp as one of the NBA’s deepest teams, leaving players such as Jemison at a disadvantage if they wish to earn playing time. Nonetheless, the 6’11, 260 pound big man will look to make a strong impression throughout training camp and beyond.
