Earlier this month in response to his son Lane being snubbed from an invitation to the Team USA Olympic orientation camp, Rob Hutson shocked the hockey world with the statement that his son could potentially represent Canada instead on the future world stage.
It was a surprise to see Hutson’s name not listed on the initial 40 plus man American roster, to be fair. The 2025 Calder winner was the top rookie in the NHL last season and amassed a stout 66 points on the Habs blueline.
With that being said and to Hockey Canada fans dismay, Lane Huston has broken his silence on his fathers comments regarding his national team of choice.
What did Lane Huston have to say?
Lane was recently quoted in response to Rob’s claim that he is a “USA Hockey player and that’s how it is.” Huston has issued a firm statement denying the Team Canada allegations and will remain loyal to Team USA, despite the Olympic invitational snub.
Hutson made a decision to not participate in Team USA’s 2025 World Championship run despite being extended an invite. He understands that decision played a part in the reason he was not invited to Olympic camp. This does not change the fact that the 21 year old is of the most promising American defenseman in the game. Making the Olympic team would have been a tall task at this early stage of his career, but he will get his chances down the road.
Lane Hutson will hope that USA Hockey gives him the same level of loyalty in the future when it comes time to decide further Olympic rosters beyond 2026.
