Geno Smith roasted for ugly showing in Raiders’ 20-9 loss to Chargers

When the Las Vegas Raiders traded for quarterback Geno Smith, the thought was that he would be a massive upgrade over the brutal situation the team had under center in 2024.

However, he didn’t show that in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Smith was nothing short of careless with the football in the 20-9 loss. He tossed three interceptions and failed to lead the Raiders on a touchdown drive. Smith finished the game 24-of-43 for 180 yards and zero touchdowns to three picks.

Smith threw his first interception on the very first play of the game on a pass that was just a terrible decision. He also lofted up a prayer pass to rookie Dont’e Thornton down the sideline in the second quarter that was another awful decision.

Both during and after the game, Smith was heavily criticized for his performance.

“Geno smith having 43 pass attempts for under 200 yards and 3 interceptions gotta be a top 5 worst stat line in NFL history,” one fan wrote.

“A miserable night for Geno Smith,” Raiders Beat said.

“The inaccuracy is mind-boggling. Can’t put air under the ball when he needs to and can’t put pepper on it when he needs to. Terrible,” another fan wrote.

“That loss was all on Geno Smith, that was some is the worst QB play I’ve seen in person,” a Raiders fan exclaimed.

It is fair to point out that Las Vegas’ pass protection wasn’t totally up to snuff, but that doesn’t excuse Smith putting the ball in harm’s way far too often.

Smith and the Raiders will now look to rebound in Week 3 when they take on the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
