The Atlanta Falcons had every opportunity to win their Week 1 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Younghoe Koo’s struggles from the previous year resurfaced. This led the Falcons to make some changes, including signing kicker Parker Romo to the practice squad. This move drew some criticism, especially since the Falcons refused to fully pull the plug on Koo.
“Why are the Falcons p***yfooting around with this? Pun intended, I guess? If Romo is the guy, just sign him and cut Koo?? This blind loyalty is at a point of silliness. You don’t need THREE kickers on a roster,” ESPN Radio’s Mark Zinno wrote.
However, throughout last week, the Falcons hinted that Koo might not be the kicker much longer.
“Seeing Bradley Pinion take kickoffs today at Falcons practice. Koo took kicks vs. Bucs in Week 1,” Falcons reporter Joe Patrick noted.
The Falcons elevated Romo from the practice squad for the game against Minnesota on Sunday—and he didn’t disappoint.
“The kicker made five field goals in the Falcons’ Week 2 prime-time road win against the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday,” Falcons writer Tori McElhaney wrote.

However, when head coach Raheem Morris was asked if Romo was going to get another chance in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers, he refused to completely rip off the band-aid with Koo. He didn’t give a definitive answer about whether it would be Romo or not.
“Falcons coach Raheem Morris said there is 90% chance is that Parker Romo is the kicker for the Panthers game,” AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter posted.
While this is a high likelihood, it still doesn’t close the door on Koo, whose days seem to be numbered. However, it doesn’t seem like the Falcons or Morris can muster the courage to let go of Koo. Koo has been great for the Falcons in previous years, but at some point, it becomes time to move on.
