Sidney Crosby brushes off Penguins “tanking” allegations

As Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby today recently denied reports that he was interested in leaving the team that drafted him, the captain has more to say about the current state of his team.

The 2026 Gavin McKenna sweepstakes at the bottom of the NHL will be closely watched all season as this year’s draft lottery race may be as entertaining as the playoff race at the top of the league.

One of the teams that has been pegged by many to be firmly in the “tanking” conversation is the Pittsburgh Penguins, but Sidney Crosby is not having it.

What did Crosby have to say about the Penguins?

When asked in an interview about the prospects of a “tank” season in Pittsburgh this year Crosby stated in reply: “That is not the game I know.”

The competitive Crosby clearly does not share the same view of his team that the media do. Sidney’s Penguins have not made the playoffs since the 2021-2022 season as the team enters a period of retool led by GM Kyle Dubas. For Pens fans however, the possibility of another bottom feeder season might not be too bad as the potential of a future Crosby-McKenna tandem is tantalizing.

We’ll see if Crosby is around for this changing era in Pittsburgh, based on his recent comments the answer looks like yes. Sid’s current deal does not expire until after the 26-27 season, until then he will look to help his team get back on track as the world continues to speculate about him and his team’s future.
