The New York Knicks have undergone many changes so far this offseason, and they might not be done quite yet.
From Mike Brown taking over the head coaching duties, to the many free agency signings including Jordan Clarkson, Guerschon Yabusele, Landry Shamet, Garrison Mathews, and Malcolm Brogdon, the Knicks are officially all in for next season.
As such, the Knicks don’t have room for all of these new players to fit on their roster, meaning they’d have to make a trade if they wish to keep them. Kris Pursiainen of ClutchPoints says that the Knicks could look to trade one of its four second-year players in a deal to bring financial stability.
“If New York does make a trade, one of their four rookies drafted in 2024 could be on the move,” Pursiainen said. “The Knicks have received at least one offer for one of their second-year players this week, league sources told ClutchPoints. The expectation of several league sources is that the organization will trade a player for draft capital to clear a roster spot.”
Former second-round pick could be a trade candidate for the Knicks
Pursiainen pointed to Tyler Kolek in particular as a potential trade candidate given the Knicks’ exceptional guard depth as it is.
“Jalen Brunson, Miles ‘Deuce’ McBride, and new additions in Jordan Clarkson and Brogdon would give the team depth at guard. This could logjam incoming second-year guard Tyler Kolek behind the group of veteran ball handlers,” Pursiainen said. “Moving Kolek could afford the 24-year-old opportunity that he would not get in New York.”
Nonetheless, the Knicks still enter next season as one of the league’s deepest teams, and will be amongst the favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference after reaching the Conference Finals last season.
