Third baseman Nolan Arenado will rejoin the Cardinals on Monday and could be in the starting lineup that night against the Cincinnati Reds, per MLB.com’s John Denton.
Arenado, 34, has been on the injured list with a right shoulder strain since Aug. 1. He played the past two nights with Double-A Springfield on a rehab assignment and will use Sunday as a recovery day while returning to St. Louis, manager Oli Marmol said.
The Cardinals (72-77) wrap up their series in Milwaukee today at 2:10 p.m. ET.

Arenado will rejoin Cardinals Monday
Arenado initially rehabbed at St. Louis’ Spring Training facility in Jupiter, Fla., before the Cardinals sent him on a Double-A rehab assignment on Sept. 10.
Nolan Gorman has primarily played third base in Arenado’s absence but has batted just .211 with 14 home runs and 46 RBI this season. Though Arenado was also struggling offensively before his injury, slashing .235/.294/.366 with 10 homers and 43 RBI.
While toward the end of his career, the 10-time Gold Glover is still a strong defensive player and important veteran presence for a Cardinals team full of young prospects. There’ll be much uncertainty in St. Louis this offseason as it rebuilds under new president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom.
St. Louis has had a disappointing season filled with historically low attendance at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals could technically still make the playoffs—they’re four games out of the Wild Card—but FanGraphs puts their chances at 0.5%.
St. Louis has 13 games remaining in the regular season before the Cardinals enter an offseason that will likely be marked by change.
