Three blockbuster signings the Red Sox could pull off to make themselves World Series favorites this offseason

The Boston Red Sox have had a wondrous season this year, finally returning to playoff contention after years of mediocrity. Now, this offseason the Sox have a chance to really make themselves World Series favorites with a loaded free agent class.

Here’s three free agents that could make a blockbuster signing for the Sox, and put them over the top for the 2026 season:

Kazuma Okamoto, Yomiuri Giants 1B

Okamoto has been linked to the Sox by analysts quite frequently, and for good reason. Okamoto is a star in the NPB, and is set to be posted to the MLB this offseason. In his career in the NPB, he’s slashed .273/.353/.498/.851 with 273 home runs in 11 seasons. In six of those seasons, he’s hit 30+ homers.

Okamoto would be a fine upgrade from Triston Casas, as he’s way more durable and has better overall stats. While he has been combating an elbow injury this year, he came back and was pretty much the same player he was before. The Sox could definitely use that, and should pursue him.

Pete Alonso, New York Mets 1B

Alonso is another player that’s been linked to the Sox. Alonso has proven himself to be a true slugger in the MLB, with a line of .267/.344/.511/.854 and 33 homers. He’s been putting numbers up like this for years, so getting a proven veteran like Alonso who’s more durable than Casas is always a great choice.

Only problem is the Sox would have to pay him, and if they have to choose to pay both him and/or Alex Bregman, they’ll probably choose Bregman.

Kyle Schwarber, Philadelphia Phillies DH

This would probably be the most welcome signing, as it’s a reunion with a 2021 star who helped the Sox get to the ALCS. This year, he’s an MVP candidate, slashing .241/.365/.560/.925 with 50 homers, which is offense the Sox would love to have.

Schwarber would take the primary DH from Masataka Yoshida, who the Sox would theoretically shop if they landed the Phillies DH.

Hopefully the Sox land one of these guys, as any of them could make Boston the top powerhouse of the MLB.
